Leicester will tell Aston Villa target Christian Fuchs that he must remain at the King Power to see out the rest of his contract, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper claimed via it’s print edition [page 68, January 20] that Villa are interested in signing Fuchs, 32, this month, however the West Midlands club look as though they are going to miss out on the Austrian left-back.

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Villa had enquired about signing the defender on loan for the rest of the season.

However in this latest update about Fuchs’ future at Leicester, it seems as though Dean Smith will have to look elsewhere to sign a new left-back.

OPINION

This news could be a blessing in disguise for Aston Villa. While it is obvious that Smith needs to sign a new left-back this month as Neil Taylor is his only current option, Fuchs might not have been much of an upgrade on the Welshman. The former Schalke defender will turn 33-years-old later in the season and has only managed six first team appearances for Leicester in all competitions this term. He is not the same player that won the Premier League title with the Foxes in 2016 and Smith should be looking at younger, more promising left-back targets. Fuchs is also earning a lot of money at Leicester. According to statistics website Spotrac, he earns £50,000-a-week on his deal and Villa would have more than likely had to pay all of that to sign him on loan. Smith should have other left-back targets and Villa fans will be praying that he can sign a replacement for Taylor as soon as possible.
