Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has delivered his verdict on his former club’s win over Hearts on Sunday.

The Gers initially went behind in the first half after twenty minutes after some pressure from Hearts, but Conor Goldson and Alfredo Morelos spared the visitor’s blushes to secure all three points that ensures that they now sit at the summit of the table.

Despite Scott Arfield getting sent off in the second half, Rae was quick to praise the players via his personal Twitter account for the way they were able to cope coming back from a goal behind, saying that they had “plenty of character”.

He said: “10 man Rangers win 2-1 to take top spot in the Ladbrokes Prem League plenty of character to come from a goal behind”.

OPINION

Even though Rangers were able to hang onto their 2-1 lead in the second half after Arfield’s sending off, it is safe to say that they were not at their best on Sunday. At the start of the first half, they could not cope with Hearts’ attacking play, with Allan McGregor having to bail them out a few times before Hearts finally got what they wanted. Rae is no doubt going to be rather bias as he is talking about his former club, but it is hard not to agree with him when he mentions how they showed a lot of character to hang on for the victory. The fact that Rangers now sit at the top of the league will no doubt give them a huge morale boost, but Steven Gerrard knows that he has a few things to address after this game. They were obviously not outplayed, but with the quality they do have in their team, they should be doing a lot better.
