Jan Vertonghen has dropped a potential hint about when Tottenham’s new 62,000-seater stadium will be opened at White Hart Lane.

Spurs sealed their spot in the last-16 of the Champions League on Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw in Barcelona proving enough for them to finish second in the group after PSV held Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw at the San Siro.

After the game at the Nou Camp, Vertonghen claimed that there will be Champions League football at the Lane in 2019, meaning that Tottenham could be returning to their home at White Hart Lane by February.

“What a night. Champions League at the Lane in 2019,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

OPINION

Spurs fans will be very disappointed if the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is not opened by next February, but it looks as though the club and the players now know when it will be opened. Of course, Vertonghen could just be saying that without any knowledge of when the side will return to White Hart Lane, but it seems quite specific of him to mention the Lane when he could have just said ‘North London’ and had a pop at Arsenal in the process. For now though Spurs fans will be on a massive high after the events of Tuesday night. Mauricio Pochettino’s side played very well against what was a weakened, yet still strong, Barcelona side. It has been a tough couple of weeks for Tottenham fans who have had to cope with losing against Arsenal in the North London derby, but they will be very confident of getting revenge in the upcoming Carabao Cup quarter final against the Gunners.
