OPINION
It seems that Tottenham fans are divided over the news about Toby Alderweireld’s contract extension, and that makes sense because it is such a bittersweet update that Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed. As quoted by Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold on Thursday, the Spurs boss announced that the club is set to extend Alderweireld’s contract by a further year, which on the face of it looks good. However the Guardian claimed last year that a one-year extension to the 29-year-old’s deal will also activate a £25million release clause for next summer, meaning that while he won’t be leaving for free at the end of the season, it does mean that he will become affordable to a lot of clubs across England and the rest of Europe. The only good news that Tottenham fans can get about Alderweireld’s contract is that he signs a new one. No matter what happens between now and next summer, he will be leaving Spurs unless he signs a new contract. Sorry Spurs fans but this is not good news.
Poch says Spurs will take option to extend Toby Alderweireld's contract by a year. On new stadium: "To play in your stadium is the best thing that can happen in your life. When it's finished I want to move. I'm happy at Wembley but the moment the stadium is ready I want to move."

If he doesn't want new contract, it's the best option for us ?

Toby is gone….they are only activating the 1 year option So the least they get is the 25 mill….shocking. whoever he goes to will strengthen them and weaken us. Next will be Toby

It actually says more about Poch staying tbh. No way he’s moving to ditching without leading out the side in the new stadium.

That's him gone then. Every team in the league will stump up that amount. The thought of him at Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool.. ugh
