Jim White has delivered an update on Manchester United’s hunt for a new manager.

The Sky Sports transfer supremo posted a tweet saying that United expected to name their interim manager in 48 hours, which would mean he was in place before the weekend game against Cardiff.

He said that former United player Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is reported as being the frontrunner.

OPINION

We can’t see anyone being upset about Solksjaer being the new interim manager, except maybe for Molde fans. He had a fantastic career at United and has had experience of managing, although nowhere near this level. He’ll be tasked with steadying the ship until the end of the season and we see it as being a pretty sweet gig if he gets it. We can’t see him doing any worse than Mourinho and expectations will be really low. It will do his career a lot of good as well to have Man United on his CV and if he performs above expectations it could propel him into a new league. Cardiff must be pretty angry about the whole thing though. They would have been relishing playing United under Mourinho. A newly galvanised team and players with a new manager? We can see a rout in Wales. Neil Warnock must be cursing his luck.
