Chris Sutton has savaged Rangers winger Eros Grezda for his displays this season since his arrival in the summer, blaming him for the team’s lack of creativity.

He joked that rather than the 23-year-old being a £20 million “player in the making”, his form this term suggests that figure should be a lot lower.

Grezda arrived from Croatian outfit NK Osijek in the last transfer window, but during his last 14 games for the club in all competitions, he has mustered up just two goals and one assist.

“Rangers have a huge problem creating things from the middle of the park. There’s little spark,” he said in his Daily Record column.

“Eros Grezda for example has been a disaster so far. Albania manager Christian Panucci says he’s a £20million player in the making, but, on current evidence, he must mean £20.”

OPINION

It is hard not to agree with Sutton here – Grezda has hardly been a revelation since Rangers signed him in the summer, and he is the player largely at fault for their lack of creativity in the midfield. His contribution has basically been minimal in this campaign – he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of, but his failure to maintain high levels of performance have really let the team down going forward. Yes, the Gers have a prolific striker in the shape of Alfredo Morelos, but it is not up to him to produce all of the goods is it? Grezda will soon fall out of favour with Steven Gerrard if he does not improve, as the club certainly do not need a player who is incapable of making any sort of impact. The club no doubt signed him based on what they had seen of him, but at the moment, he is failing to reproduce the form that impressed them in the first place.
