Rangers must try and sign Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy in the January transfer window after their need for a reinforcements was highlighted.

Chris Sutton remarked in his column for the Daily Record that Eros Grezda has not been on form since joining the club in the summer – branding him a “disaster” despite the Albania manager claiming he is worth £20 million.

“Eros Grezda for example has been a disaster so far. Albania manager Christian Panucci says he’s a £20million player in the making, but, on current evidence, he must mean £20.”

In light of the well-known pundit’s recent comments, the Gers would be wise to swoop for a winger like Murphy – after all, he is not getting the game time he deserves at St James’ Park.

Murphy would be a far better option than Grezda in January, as the international certainly is not showing any signs of improvement.

The 23-year-old is no doubt extremely eager to impress, and seeming as Rafa Benitez does not look to be giving him that opportunity any time soon, moving to Rangers could benefit his career hugely.

He would walk straight into the first team given their lack of creative spark at the moment, and with the blistering pace he possesses, the Gers would definitely be onto a winner.

Alfredo Morelos would greatly appreciate the support Murphy would provide him with if he were to join forces with Steven Gerrard.

Moving for the speedster is a no-brainer really – after all, Rangers’ hopes of winning the Scottish Premier League title are not dead and buried just yet, and with Murphy on board, they would have a better chance than ever.

Murphy is the ideal Gerrard signing, and Ibrox would certainly roar if the young ace arrived in January.

Time for Rangers to hit the ground running in January.
