BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has slammed Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos after the striker was sent off in the 1-0 defeat to Aberdeen.

That evened the sides up after Rangers held the numerical advantage when Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove was sent of in the first-half.

Aberdeen were already a goal up by that point, after Scott McKenna had given them the leat at Ibrox in just the 7th minute of the game.

After Morelos was sent off, Rangers couldn’t find a way back into the game and Steven Gerrard’s men had to relinquish top spot in the Premiership after holding it for the briefest of times.

McManus slammed Morelos on his personal Twitter page on Wednesday night, saying that he was “unbelievably stupid” and followed up by saying “you can’t criticise Morelos”.

He said manager Gerrard would be fuming at him.

OPINION

Gerrard has a real problem with Alfredo Morelos. 24 yellow cards already in his short Rangers career prove that. He’s letting his team down again and again. It’s not just last night, although they could easily have got back into the game against 10-man Aberdeen had he not been sent off midway through the second-half, it’s also the games that he misses through suspension. Anyone remember the Scottish League Cup semi-final, also against Aberdeen? It doesn’t matter how good you are or how many goals you score, if you can’t stay on the pitch there’s a problem that Gerrard needs to sort out. Morelos is a hothead and you don’t want to change the way he plays. You just need to stop him being so insufferably stupid on the pitch. Gerrard must make it clear that this is the last time that he’ll accept disciplinary problems from his young striker. Last night was a huge opportunity with Celtic drawing against Motherwell. Thanks to Morelos, Rangers didn’t capitalise.
