BBC Sportsound pundit Tam McManus has said that Alfredo Morelos is the best striker in Scotland after his two-goal display against St Johnstone on Sunday.

Rangers left it late but found a way to secure the three points after James Tavernier set-up a goal for Morelos in the 88th minute that took them second in the league, just one point behind Celtic.

Posting after the game on his personal Twitter account, McManus said “Morelos is currently the best striker in Scotland. No doubts for me.”

However, he went on to say that “Rangers do well to hang onto him in January”.

OPINION

What would Rangers do without Morelos? They’ve sort of already shown that in the cup semi-final they lost against Aberdeen. That didn’t go so well, although to be fair Kyle Lafferty was missing then too. Morelos might come with his own baggage – he’s a little hot-headed at times – but he knows where the back of the net is. He’s now scored 11 in 17 Premiership games and 19 in 32 across all competitions. They’re the sort of stats that get you noticed, although we don’t think there’s a chance he goes anywhere in January. The sort of offer they’d have to get to make them sell would be astronomical and while they’ve got a chance of qualifying for the Champions League, with the riches that go along with that, they’d be crazy to let him go. Celtic fans might not like the tagline ‘best striker in Scotland’. But, Odsonne Edouard has only scored eight in 16 Premiership games and 13 in 30 across all competitions. Stats don’t lie. We think Morelos is ‘currently’ the best, the same as McManus.
