Graeme Souness heaped praise on Tottenham duo Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez for this performances in the 6-2 win over Everton on Sunday.
Spurs had to come from 1-0 behind to win their clash with the Toffees at Goodison Park and the Sky Sports pundit highlighted how important the club’s two centre-backs were in their side being able to turn the match around.
Souness dubbed both Alderweireld and Sanchez as fabulous and suggested that the pair bordered on being faultless in Sunday’s win over Marco Silva’s side.
“We’ll talk about the goals they scored but the two centre-backs Sanchez and Alderweireld especially were fabulous today, faultless near enough and that was is a basis for you to keep believing in what you’re trying to do as you know you have players who can hurt the opposition,” said Souness on Sky Sports Premier League (Sunday December 23, 18:05).

Souness is right to put the spotlight on Alderweireld and Sanchez as they certainly played their part in Spurs’ win on Sunday. Everyone will drool over Spurs’ attacking threat in the coming days as it’s not often you see a Premier League side score six in single game, but that shouldn’t shadow Spurs’ defenders. Sanchez and Alderweireld shone bright and ensured that heads didn’t drop in front of them by keeping the score at 1-0 rather than crumbling under Everton putting on pressure on them to make it 2-0. While Souness wants extra praise put on Alderweireld’s shoulders over Sanchez, it is hard to rank one above the other after their displays against Tottenham. Hopefully the duo are able to keep their promising form going in the coming weeks as Spurs will want to rack up as many points as possible in this festive period. Lots of sides suffer shock defeats over Christmas due to the hectic schedule getting the better of them and the London club won’t want to fall into that trap.
