Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister has revealed that the Gers are sitting down and talking to star striker Alfredo Morelos on a regular basis in a bid to end his disciplinary issues.

The Colombian has seen himself shown three red cards this season – one rescinded – with another sending off against Aberdeen in midweek.

Having also missed a game due to the amount of yellow cards picked up, McAllister insisted there was a problem running through the squad – but that it was Morelos who required the most attention.

The Gers coach told Sky Sports’ Football Centre (07/12. 16:27) : “There is a discipline problem (with) the number of red cards and bookings. It’s something we’re working on continually.

“It’s a learning process for him (Morelos), continually.

“You know he’s a very competitive guy but we back him and we’re sitting there (talking to him) probably more than most as you can imagine, we want to try and help the guy.”

Opinion

It seems as though the club’s attempts to get through to their Colombian talisman have failed to work thus far and they might need a different approach if they are going to sort out his problems. His aggressive streak is great when it comes to showing a passion to score goals and it part of the reason why he has been so dangerous in front of goal this season – but he often takes it over the line. He needs to manage his attitude and make sure he is applying himself in the right way – otherwise is going to continue to find himself on the wrong side of the law. It is no surprise that McAllister is spending plenty of time trying to sort his head out because having him sidelined for so many games is a real problem when it comes to their hunt for success. Missing him means they lose a real threat up top and while Kyle Lafferty can fill that void, they would rather have their South American hitman available.
