Steven Gerrard is plotting a ‘shock’ move for 21-year-old Everton attacker Kieran Dowell, according to Mirror journalist James Nursey.

He claimed on the Mirror’s Live Transfer blog (3.09pm) that Gerrard wanted the Everton youngster on loan in January.

He wants more creativity in his side and is now plotting a move for the England Under-21 midfielder.

OPINION

Dowell hasn’t managed to break through into the Everton first-team this season, making just two appearances in the EFL Cup. He had a much better time last season in the Championship with Nottingham Forest where he played 38 league games, scoring nine goals and adding four assists. Highly-rated, he’s the victim of Everton’s new squad and good form, and it seems highly likely that he’ll make a temporary move in January. Back in November, Dowell was said to be disgruntled with the situation and manager Marco Silva said that he would wait until nearer the January transfer window before making a call on the youngster. He said if he was playing then he would stay, but he’s still only got the two appearances in the EFL Cup to his name. He’s only made the bench in the Premier League three times, the last back in September and he’s been playing with the Under-21s. That’s not the best thing for his career at the moment and a move to Rangers on loan would make sense for everyone involved.
