Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race for exciting RB Salzburg midfielder Hannes Wolf, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on their transfer centre [03/12; 20:32] that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have joined Arsenal, Southampton and Everton in holding an interest in the youngster.

A number of Germany’s top clubs are also said to be looking at the Austrian, who the Mirror state has been likened to current Spurs star Christian Eriksen.

Wolf starred as Salzburg claimed the UEFA Youth League in 2017, and continued his progress with a breakthrough campaign with the first team last season.

Good move for Tottenham?

This would be an excellent purchase for Spurs, yes. Wolf is one of the premier young talents in Europe, and excelled for Salzburg last term. He scored 12 times and registered 8 assists in all competitions as the Austrian outfit impressed both domestically and on the continent last season. He has continued where he left off this campaign, already scoring four times and notching nine assists. That sort of production is not natural for a 19-year-old and Tottenham would be wise to pounce on Wolf before it’s too late. With uncertainty growing over Eriksen, Pochettino could simply replace the Dane with a young man who has been compared to him. It’s always good to look to the future, and Wolf looks set to be one of the stars of European football in the years to come.

Likely to happen?

Well, it certainly seems as if there is a lot of competition for the teenager. That’s normal, however, and Wolf need only look at Pochettino’s record of developing young players to see why a move to North London would be in his best interests. It will be a tough deal to get done, but who knows?
