Gerrard must gamble on Dobbie

Rangers missed a wonderful opportunity to stake their claim as serious title contenders on Wednesday night by failing to find a way past Hibernian.

The 0-0 stalemate not only allowed Celtic to reassume their position at the top of the SPL table, but highlighted a worrying problem for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Alfredo Morelos wasted a host of opportunities and when the 22-year-old fails to fire, Rangers tend not to score.

That’s a massive issue for a side with aspirations of a title challenge, and the Gers must do something to amend to it.

A January move for Queen of the South striker Stephen Dobbie could be the ideal short-term solution.

The 36-year-old may be approaching the end of his career but he has fired in 29 goals in 24 appearances this season for the Championship side, and would surely help ease the burden being placed on Morelos.

Dobbie has admitted in the past that the only side he would consider leaving Queen for would be Rangers, and at his age you would assume that a deal could be struck for a relatively reasonable price this January.

It may not be the answer to Gerrard’s problems in the long term, but it could be enough to get his title bid back on track this season.

And it would bring Dobbie’s career full circle after he kicked off his football at Ibrox.
