Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has hit out at his players following the Gers 1-1 draw with Dundee on Sunday.

The ex-Liverpool man made six changes to his team, bringing in Joe Worrall, Kyle Lafferty, Ryan Kent, Andy Halliday, Jordan Rossiter, and Eros Grezda as his side toiled to a point against the 10-man hosts, who were bottom of the league prior to kick-off.

Referring to his alterations after the game, as quoted in the Daily Mail, Gerrard said: “It won’t happen again. People knock on your door, people shake their head when they’re not in the team, people are disappointed. That’s fine, that’s football.

“But when you are given your chance, go and back it up, go and perform, give me a problem or a headache.

“I think it’s pretty easy and straightforward for me now. I know the players I can trust and it’s a reality check today that we’re not good enough to make five or six changes.

“It should make my job easier going forward because there should be fewer knocks at the door. If players are honest with themselves and watch that performance back, I don’t really think they’ve got a leg to stand on.”

OPINION

Rangers were pretty shocking against Dundee on Sunday. Against 10 men, with their hosts rooted to the foot of the league table, they lacked creativity and imagination as they toiled away to gain a point that probably felt more like a loss. Just seven days ago the Gers were flying high after deservedly climbing back to the summit of the SPL, but this week the mood couldn’t be more different around Ibrox. What Sunday highlighted above all else is just how precarious Rangers’ status as a title challenger is. Whereas Celtic have bounced back from a dreadful start to reassert themselves as the best side in Scotland, Rangers have gone all out and still come up short behind the Hoops. They are getting better under Gerrard, but they are evidently a long way off their bitter rivals, and a couple more disappointing results like this one will surely put a stop to any talk of title race.
