Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that on-loan winger Ryan Kent picked up a knock in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Dundee, and admitted that he does not know the extent of the 22-year-old’s injury.

The Gers slumped to a disappointing result against the 10-man hosts, and failed to take an opportunity to move level on points with league leaders Celtic.

The former Liverpool captain was also forced to withdraw Kent, on loan from Merseyside, at half time. The wide man only returned from an ongoing hamstring injury this weekend.

Speaking after the match, as quoted on the club’s official Twitter, Gerrard said: “He [Kent] has got an issue I think, we’ll have to check it out.

“We’re hoping that it’s just a precaution but he felt discomfort so we had to take him off.”

OPINION

Steven Gerrard will have plenty more to worry about besides Ryan Kent’s injury after a dour display against Dundee, but the potential absence of the Liverpool loanee will only worsen the boss’ mood. After having just returned from a hamstring injury, the hope will be that whatever it was that forced Kent off is not an aggravation of that problem, and instead is just a niggle that will come right with a few days rest. Aside from the injury, Gerrard will be livid at a lacklustre outing that will have acted as a reality check for any fans buoyed by last week’s ascent to the summit of the SPL. Rangers are undoubtedly a better team than they were before Gerrard came to Ibrox, but they are still a long way off Celtic on the basis of this showing, and a 1-1 draw against a 10-man Dundee side who went in to the class rooted to the bottom of the league will feel like a seriously missed opportunity.
