Two American players have jetted in for trials at Rangers ahead of the January window, according to Four Lads Had a Dream.

The Gers blog, which is a very reliable source of news about the Glasgow giants, reported on Tuesday afternoon that left-back Matt Polster and central midfielder Andrew Gutman have arrived at the club’s training headquarters.

Four Lads Had a Dream report that Rangers are running the rule over the pair “to see if they are any good” before deciding whether to make a move to buy them.

It makes sense for Rangers to assess Gutman and Polster at close quarters before deciding whether to push the button on a January swoop. With the MLS season recently finished, the duo have the time to head across the Atlantic and try to secure a move to one of Britain’s most historic and best-supported clubs. Polster, 25, is an experienced MLS player and whose performances for Chicago Fire have landed him a senior USA cap. He plays at left-back, which has been something of a problem position for Rangers this season despite the multi-million pound fee spent in the summer on Croatian Borna Barisic, who has missed chunks of the season through injury. Gutman is a midfielder who used to be on the books of Steven Gerrard’s former club LA Galaxy, but who slipped off the radar after initially struggling to break through. He has made up for lost time with a renaissance in recent times and now has the chance to show Gerrard why he is worth the manager’s attention ahead of the January window.
