Kris Commons has singled out Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter for criticism after their disappointing 1-1 draw against Dundee on Sunday.

Despite taking an early lead The Dee played 70 minutes with ten men after a red card for Nathan Ralph, and Rangers were unable to capitalise after Andy Halliday’s brilliant equaliser.

Former Celtic star Commons has now slammed Rossiter for his display against the Premiership strugglers, urging the midfielder to step up for manager Steven Gerrard.

In a column for the Daily Mail, he said: “The rest of the players have to step up. I know he’s had injury problems, but Jordan Rossiter has had umpteen chances in a Rangers jersey and hasn’t delivered.”

OPINION

In all honesty, there were very few Rangers players who emerged from this draw against Dundee with any credit. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor was one, as usual, with the Scotland international putting in another consummate display. Left-back Andy Halliday had a decent game, as did Ryan Jack in midfield, with Eros Grezda posing a threat on the wings. Apart from that there wasn’t much to write home about for Gerrard, who was clearly very disappointed with his side after the match. His criticism of Rossiter is therefore understandable, although many believe that the former Liverpool midfielder didn’t play too badly on Sunday. He did some nice work in midfield but did look a bit light weight at times, with Gerrard having options with more presence available in his squad. His horrific injury problems are obviously well known, but if he staves off any further issues, then he could become a key player for Gerrard.
