Kris Boyd has slammed seven of the players signed by Rangers over the last 12 months for failing to deliver the goods.

The former Ibrox striker and high-profile pundit, who is still playing for Kilmarnock, has been unconvinced by a number of arrivals brought in by the Light Blues in recent times.

He highlighted midfielder Greg Docherty, who arrived last January, as well as summer-of-2017 signings Nikola Katic, Borna Barisic, Eros Grezda, Lassana Coulibaly, Joe Worrall and Umar Sadiq.

“The recruitment process over the past 12 months hasn’t been great — and I’m not blaming Gerrard,” Boyd told the Scottish Sun. “Look at last January when Greg Docherty was brought in from Hamilton. He was quickly shipped out on loan to Shrewsbury and there’s no sign of him coming back.

“They need more from Katic, Barisic and Grezda. You can add Lassana Coulibaly and Joe Worrall to that list as well.

“Too many of their signings have been way off the mark — putting even more pressure on the likes of Morelos and McGregor to carry the team.

“There are people inside Ibrox who should be held responsible for these shortcomings in the transfer market. Mind you, I don’t expect anyone to put their hand up to Umar Sadiq.”

OPINION

Boyd shoots from the hip and his hand is always poised close to the trigger. But is he right to so emphatically destroy the seven he claims have been far from magnificent. Certainly, Sadiq was an unmitigated flop, and Rangers acted quickly to terminate his loan. Of the other six, all have showed glimpses of real quality at times. Coulibaly, Barisic and Katic impressed in the opening months of the season, although their form has subsequently plummeted. Worrall has looked a class act on some occasions, while on others he has appeared an accident waiting to happen. Docherty is young, talented and his time will surely come as he learns the ropes at League One outfit Shrewsbury Town. As for Grezda, it is hard to dispute that he has failed to live up to his billing. For a player costing over £2million, he should be dazzling in the SPL. Rangers fans are still waiting for him to turn up.
