Rumours have been rife on social media that Celtic have refused their allocation for the Old Firm game at the end of December, but Celtic supporter liaison officer John Paul Taylor has said this is just “speculation”

Responding to a Celtic fan on Twitter, the Celtic FC SLO Twitter account said, “Been no word on this at all, any suggestion either way is purely speculation.”

John Paul Taylor posted the message on the Celtic FC SLO Twitter account on Friday morning.

OPINION

It’s a shame that the eagerly-anticipated Old Firm clash on December 29 has been overshadowed by the furore over tickets. The atmosphere at the Ibrox clash is going to be very different either way, with the crowd being almost exclusively Rangers. Should Celtic take the 800 ticket allocation? We wouldn’t really fancy being in the Celtic end that day but we hope for the sake of football that they accept the tickets and that Celtic have some supporters at Ibrox. We don’t want to see a future where huge football matches are only watched by home fans, and we don’t think it’s good for the game. There are lots of reasons why both Celtic and Rangers have put restrictions on away tickets, but we’re not fans. The game itself is huge, with both Rangers and Celtic slipping up and leaving Kilmarnock at the top of the table. It’s not a title decider but it’s far more important to Rangers in terms of a title push.
