Celtic captain Scott Brown will receive an offer from new A-League side Western Melbourne next week, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper report that the Hoops midfielder is being targeted as the club’s marquee signing for their first season in the Australian top-flight, with officials engaging in talks with Brown on Thursday.

The Record claim that Brown is set to be offered a lucrative three-year deal to head down under, with the 33-year-old being top of Melbourne’s wanted list.

It is said that Brown has been in talks with Celtic over a new deal but the club have given him time to assess all his options, with his current contract ending in the summer.

Good move for Celtic?

No.

Losing Brown would be a bad move whichever way you look at it, especially if he walks away on a free.

The midfielder has been such a key player for the Hoops over the last few years, and despite his injury problems this season, is such an important figure in the dressing room.

Obviously the club will be keen to give Brown the freedom to make a decision as thanks for his service, but they will no doubt be hoping that he decides to stay.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Brown is seriously considering his options after the summer, and it would not be a surprise if he does accept this offer.

The chance to move to another part of the world on a lucrative three-year deal is a big opportunity for him, despite the step down in level it would entail.

At this point it comes down to Brown and what he wants for the remainder of his career.
