Graham Roberts has hit out at claims that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to be in the frame to replace Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

Manchester United sacked Mourinho on Tuesday, which led to a report by the Times claiming that Pochettino wants to quit North London in order to manage the Red Devils.

However Spurs legend Roberts has laughed off the idea of the Argentine wanting to switch to Old Trafford.

“Ha ha ha ha total rubbish,” said Roberts via his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Roberts is right to laugh this off because there is no way that Pochettino would be daft enough to want to swap his safe job at Tottenham for a poisoned chalice at Man United. Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, Man United have been in decline and even though they have had proven Premier League managers in David Moyes and Mourinho, and an experienced big-club boss like Louis van Gaal, they have gotten nowhere near to the glory days of Ferguson. Pochettino would inherit a squad that is in absolute turmoil if he went there. There would be issues not only on the field but off it too and that is something that he is not having at Tottenham – not at that scale anyway. Spurs are a better team than Man United and have better future prospects. It will be incredibly hard for Man United to find a top manager to replace Mourinho. They are not the club they once were.
