OPINION

Jon Flangan should never have started that game. Andy Halliday has been in good form and although Rangers manager Steven Gerrard wanted to rotate his side, it does not mean he should be fielding a weakened team. Flanagan can play at both sides of the back-four, but he is definitely much more comfortable on the right. Some Gers fans have absolutely destroyed the 25-year-old on Twitter, and you can hardly blame them. Games against Aberdeen are big ones and you get the feeling that Flanagan isn’t up for them. It’s a reminder of the type of players that Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha signed. Gerrard has a decent squad here but some members of it just aren’t up to scratch. Flanagan is an upgrade on Lee Hodson, but he is still not good enough. Will the Gers go big again in January? Or will Dave King be a bit more reluctant to spend? Either way, Gerrard probably won’t be signing any new full-backs.
