Wolves beat Tottenham 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday evening in one of their most impressive displays of the season, and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer heaped praise on centre-back Willy Boly.

Boly scored Wolves’ first goal in the 72nd minute after Harry Kane had put Tottenham 1-0 up with a brilliant first-half strike.

And two more goals sealed a wonderful victory against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Talking on Match of the Day (Saturday, BBC1, 10.30pm), Shearer was effusive about Wolves and their style of play, but saved special praise for Boly.

“That’s the impressive thing about them [Wolves]. It doesn’t matter who they play they’ll play the same way. They were magnificent.

“Boly, who got his goal, I thought was absolutely magnificent, he was big and strong and frustrated Tottenham. Good forward play, that’s what they do, they hit you on the break. Wolves deserved it, they were much, much better than Tottenham.”

OPINION

Wolves have looked hugely impressive against most of the big sides they’ve come up against this season. They were a match for Man City early on, should have beaten Man United and completely dismantled Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday night. It led to Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino saying that his side lost their heads, and it was Wolves and Boly in particular who made that happen. It looked like Tottenham would go on and record another big win after Harry Kane scored in the first-half. But Wolves dug in and played the way they always do – on the counter attack and with blistering pace. They look a little bit like the Leicester Premier League-winning side and it was Boly who triggered the incredible comeback with his goal. And he was fantastic at the back too as Wolves stopped Tottenham from playing in the second-half. We think Wolves are the most impressive promoted side the Premier League has seen in a long time.
