BBC Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy pointed out that Harry Kane, normally “so influential”, only had one shot in the whole game against Wolves.

Kane’s only shot was a wonder-strike in the first-half that seemed to provide the platform for Spurs to go on and record another win.

However, Wolves mounted an incredible comeback in the second-half to stun the home side and record a 3-1 victory, arguably their best of the season.

And talking on Match of the Day (Saturday, BBC1, 10.30pm), Murphy said that Kane was unusually quiet and kept out of the game after his goal.

“Kane is usually so influential,” Murphy said.

“He scored an absolutely sensational goal and thats when you think Spurs have the platform to go and win the game. His only shot all game was his goal though and that’s really unusual for Tottenham.”

Murphy was also asked about the yellow card Kane got for diving and he said that he thought there was contact on the England international. “I don’t think it’s a yellow card,” Murphy said, although fellow pundit Alan Shearer disagreed with him.

OPINION

Tottenham have been absolutely rampant recently and when Kane scored it seemed like the floodgates would open again, against a Wolves side that have been conceding goals. However, Wolves ripped up the script in the second-half and blew Spurs away with some clinical counter-attacking. That’s the way they play and you’d think that with a 1-0 lead and less than 20 minutes left, Spurs would have been able to manage the game better. But, as Mauricio Pochettino said afterwards, they lost their heads chasing the game and were punished by Wolves. When Tottenham are on it, they’re lethal, but when Kane is kept out of the game they struggle. Christian Eriksen forced a great save from Rui Patricio in the Wolves goal but Nuno’s side were good value for their win and it would have been extremely frustrating to watch for Pochettino. Just they seemed to have dragged themselves back in the title race, this result all but takes them back out of it again.
