If there is one decision that Wolves fans were undoubtedly baffled by, it was Nuno Espirito Santo’s decision to include Romain Saiss in the line up to face Cardiff City on Friday.

A decision which has since back fired on the manager tremendously after an embarrassing 2-1 defeat – a defeat which has arguably led the club into a downwards spiral.

Ryan Bennett was dropped in order to accommodate the 28-year-old, which in itself is actually rather bizarre seeming as he has not done anything to warrant being left out.

However, the finger must be pointed at Nuno for this loss, as it was his choice to start the Morocco international in a game which they were more than capable of winning.

That is several defeats on the bounce for Wolves and it does not take an expert to recognise that they are in deep trouble heading into the Christmas fixtures.

Saiss – who operates as a defensive midfielder but was started as a defender – was woeful against the Bluebirds and failed to provide any sort of decent contribution to the back four during the game, something which was summed up when he started panicking and hoofing the ball clear.

Starting the 6ft 2in [Transfermarkt] enforcer was an unneccessary risk to make by Nuno – a decision which was also summed up by the fact that he had a tendency to give away a number of free kicks.

He did not impress in the slightest during Wolves’ pre-season while playing at centre-back, and he needs to be axed for their next game.

The Blues would have a field day with an unstable defender like Saiss at the back and it would not be a surprise if they completed a goal rout.

Either way, the decision to start Saiss has seriously backfired on Nuno, and he must be held accountable for this defeat.
