Managing Director of Wolves Laurie Dalrymple has shot down critics of the club’s firework display at Molineux ahead of the club’s clash against Chelsea in midweek.

The newly promoted side pulled off a shock 2-1 win over the Blues in front of their home fans, who were treated to a pyrotechnic spectacle prior to kick off, fireworks accompanying the flame throwers which are used at home games.

Dalrymple shot down any critics of the decision to put on such a display, insisting they were befitting of the club’s values, as he drooled over what he saw and heard at Molineux.

He wrote on his personal Twitter account: “Perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, I accept, but two of our core club values are to be progressive and bright! The atmosphere on Wednesday night was unbelievable. The credit for that goes to everyone in the stadium.”

Opinion

Those in opposition to Wolves’ approach to the pre-match formalities will probably argue it goes against the traditions and values of the players walking out and shaking hands – but what is the problem? For those inside Molineux it is an exciting sight which is only going to ramp up the atmosphere up to another level and that is what football is all about. No one wants a silent ground before kick off and the likes of fireworks and flame throwers brings a freshness to things that have hardly been seen in English football. Yes, some might say it is tacky and takes away from the game but those people need to get themselves out of the dark ages and into the modern era. Wolves are doing what they can to make football as entertaining and enjoyable for fans as possible. There are a lot of clubs who could do with taking a page out of the book being written at Molineux.
