Newcastle United duo Paul Dummett and Kenedy are in contention for the clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Dummett has missed the last three fixtures with Burnley, West Ham and Everton due to injuring his hamstring while playing for Wales a few weeks ago, while Kenedy had a problem with his toe and missed the last clash with the Toffees as well.

However, Rafa Benitez has now confirmed that the pair have been training and are in contention for the match at St James’ Park this weekend, as relayed by Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder on his personal Twitter account.

What a boost this will be to the manager, especially the return of Paul Dummett. If he is fit enough re-claim his spot at left-back, then Newcastle will no doubt be back to their old selves in no time. Javier Manquillo has covered a couple of the matches, while Ciaran Clark has replaced him in a make shift back five – but neither are a suitable replacement for the Welshman. It is clear to see why he is a mainstay in the team, but it is important for Benitez not to rush him too soon following his injury. This could cause it to flare up once again, and that is the last thing he would want to happen coming into the Christmas fixtures. As for Kenedy, his potential return will also be a major boost, but he is selected to play, it is hard to tell which Kenedy we will get. He has blown hot and cold this season and his performances have been a mixed bag – but his return is still a boost nonetheless.
