Wolverhampton Wanderers legend Steve Bull has lavished praise on first team star Morgan Gibbs-White and believes that he should be in the starting XI to face Newcastle on Sunday.

The 18-year-old started the 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday, and Bull evidently could not get enough of the energy that the young ace brings to the side, as well as the way he bursts forward during matches.

Bull labelled Gibbs-White as a “very, very good player” and added that the first team should not change just because Ruben Neves is available once again.

“Morgan Gibbs-White [did] brilliantly on his first Premier League start. He was full of energy and kept bursting forward, we’ve been lacking that,” he said in his Express and Star column.

“He’s a very, very good player and for me he’d be in the team at Newcastle again tomorrow. In fact I’d play the same XI, you should never change a winning side.

“Ruben Neves is available again and he’s a world class player, but the guys who got the result deserve to stay in the side.”

OPINION

Bull is right to heap praise on the youngster, as he was magificent on his first Premier League start for Wolves. What a game to make an impact in – and his display would have no doubt been recognised by Nuno Espirito Santo. Not many people would have expected Wolves to get a result against Chelsea, but Gibbs-White was one of the most instrumental players on the pitch despite not getting on the score sheet. Like Bull pointed out, his energy and ability to burst forward are two traits that Wolves have been lacking recently, but he provides them in bundles by the looks of it. He deserves to maintain his starting spot against Newcastle on Sunday, and if he replicates his performance from Wednesday, then the Magpies will be in for a very tough afternoon indeed. It is easy to forget that Gibbs-White is only 18 – he plays with a maturity beyond his years, and that will prove crucial to Wolves this season.
