Newcastle United must try their luck and join the race to sign Huddersfield attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard in the January transfer window.

The Sun has reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers have identified the 25-year-old as a £15 million target in the winter transfer window, which is no surprise given that he has helped lift the Terriers out of the Premier League relegation zone.

However, it is the Magpies who should join the race for the midfield dazzler as he is just what Rafa Benitez is looking for to bring his team to the next level.

Ayoze Perez has proved to be practically useless in this current campaign bar the one goal against Watford a couple of months ago, and his inability to play off the main striker effectively is seriously going to hamper Newcastle’s efforts over the course of the season.

That is why plotting a raid for Pritchard in the New Year makes complete sense.

He only joined the Yorkshire-based outfit at the beginning of this year, and despite the fact he has only bagged one goal this season, the impact he makes is invaluable.

Huddersfield would not be where they are now if it were not for Pritchard and there is no doubt that manager David Wagner will be incredibly grateful if his team manages to stay up.

He would be a shrewd addition to Newcastle and he would walk straight into Benitez’ starting XI with ease if his performances this term are anything to go by.

Perez does not provide that cutting edge needed to support the striker any more, whereas Pritchard has demonstrated that he can do that efficiently amongst other things.

There is no denying that Pritchard is the perfect Newcastle signing come January, and Benitez swooping for him will leave fans drooling.
