West Ham United have made an approach to Chelsea regarding January deals for midfield duo Danny Drinkwater and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to insider ExWHUemployee.

The renowned ITK, who has extensive links inside the London Stadium, revealed on the latest episode of the West Ham Way podcast that the Hammers have initiated contact with the Blues over both Drinkwater and Loftus-Cheek.

“We’ve approached Chelsea in terms of Drinkwater and Loftus-Cheek – although I don’t think we’ll get him,” he said [1:22:33].

Good move for West Ham?

Absolutely.

Both Drinkwater and Loftus-Cheek would be brilliant January signings for the Hammers, who are in need of reinforcements in the central midfield area.

Young star Declan Rice is the only player who has managed to really nail down a spot in the middle of the park, and he is crying out for a regular partner to take West Ham to the next level.

Both Drinkwater and Loftus-Cheek would be able to do that, and a deal for either player is an exciting prospect for the Hammers in the upcoming window.

Likely to happen?

A deal for Drinkwater is certainly on the cards, but it depends what kind of terms Chelsea will be looking for.

The Blues will likely want to sell Drinkwater on, but may be amenable to a loan deal at the right price.

In terms of a deal for Loftus-Cheek, that is unlikely. The young midfielder may have struggled to make an impact in the first half of the season but will likely remain at Stamford Bridge in the January window.
