OPINION
The anxious wait is over. Declan Rice has finally signed a new deal at West Ham, with the 19-year-old star committing himself to the club until 2024. As reported on the club’s official website on Friday, Rice has signed a deal which keeps him at the London Stadium for five-and-a-half more seasons, with the club having the option to extend the contract for a further year. This agreement comes after months and months of negotiations and rumours, with the club seemingly unwilling to meet Rice’s demands despite his obvious importance to the team. What has happened to break the deadlock is not clear, but the upcoming window likely has something to do with it. Players such as Reece Oxford, who is on £20,000-a-week, are set to leave, and that will free up some space for Rice’s new and improved wages. Fans are obviously delighted with the news having waited months in anticipation, and the club can now move on with the future of one of their most impressive academy stars secured.
