Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has claimed that midfielder Felipe Anderson was a great signing for West Ham following his performance in their 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The playmaker netted his sixth goal of the season following a shot from 20 yards out, which followed efforts from Robert Snodgrass and Javier Hernandez.

Lineker was clearly impressed by the Brazilian following his confident display, claiming that the Hammers’ record buy has been “a great signing.”

“He’s been a great signing, he has. That’s for sure,” he said on BBC One’s Match of the Day [8/12].

OPINION

Felipe Anderson has really come into his own in the last few games, and he has certainly proved why the Irons were right to shell out so much money on him in the summer. His curling shot that led to the goal was superb, and he has clearly demonstrated that the team are able to cope without Marko Arnautovic in the side. Lineker is right to make this claim after his recent outings, as towards the start of the campaign, fans were no doubt starting to doubt why the club bought him. He has since lived up to that pressure in a magnificent fashion and he has definitely proved any doubters he may have had wrong. Long may his great form continue, as he will be crucial to the Irons success this term. He has added consistency to his game, which is just what West Ham have needed recently after a dip in results.
