Kieran Trippier has insisted that it is too early to dismiss Tottenham from the Premier League title race.

Spurs have the opportunity to move within six points of leaders Liverpool, and within two of second-placed Manchester City with a victory over Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Trippier expressed his frustration at suggestions that the league was already a two-horse race.

The 28-year-old said: “Every single game we want to win, our mentality is to get the three points.

“Things are looking good and the last set of results have been perfect for us and we are in every competition at the moment.

“It’s another long season ahead, we’re not even at Christmas yet. So I think it’s too early to tell if we are in the title race or if we are going to win the league.”

OPINION

Trippier is right to suggest that Spurs are still well within a shout of challenging for the Premier League title, but even he must know that they are underdogs in the race for the summit. Despite a fairly common rhetoric that a lack of signings have left them short going into this campaign, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have flourished and look like a strong, unified squad. That squad still looks to be a little way off their title rivals, however, not because of a lack of investment but because of the quality of both Liverpool and City. It would be difficult to have one side as strong as those two in the league, but to have two is just downright unlucky. Spurs will be there or thereabouts come May, and they shouldn’t be dismissed by any stretch, but at this stage it would take a truly remarkable run of events for them to be crowned champions.
