Nottingham Forest are in talks to offload out of favour midfielder Liam Bridcutt to Ipswich Town, according to Football Insider.

The website claims that Aitor Karanka’s side have opened discussions with the Championship basement boys about loaning out the Scotland international.

Ipswich boss Paul Lambert is said to have identified the 29-year-old as one of his top targets as he aims to turn his side’s fortunes around.

Bridcutt is way down the pecking order at the City Ground, and the former Sunderland man has made only four first team appearances this season.

Good move for Forest?

This would be a much needed fresh start for everyone involved. Bridcutt has simply failed to cut the mustard at Forest of late and it would behoove the player to get a loan move away from Nottingham. He needs first team football and that’s simply not happening for him under Karanka. Ipswich, too, clearly need new recruits if they are to somehow avoid relegation to League One this campaign. Bridcutt would probably do a solid job for them, he’s just not good enough to get in this Forest team at the moment. Hopefully this one gets done and he can profit from a spell away from the City Ground in the second half of the season.

Likely to happen?

Well, talks are said to be underway and there doesn’t appear to be anything stopping this deal from happening. He’s not featuring for Forest and so they would surely be happy to see the back of him. He likely wants a move away as well, so this one will probably get done.
