OPINION
Tottenham cantered to an easy 3-1 win over a hapless Southampton side at Wembley tonight but the fans that did bother to make the trip weren’t happy with Kieran Trippier.
Back in the side after missing two games through injury, Trippier didn’t have his best game at the back for Tottenham and fans were quick to let him know on Twitter.
The big trouble is, they haven’t been enamoured by his replacement, Serge Aurier, either while Trippier was out.
Trippier wowed England fans in the summer at the World Cup but he’s still to discover his best for for Tottenham this season and he seemingly picked up a knock at the end of this game, limping off in the 87th minute.
In the end it didn’t matter. It’s another three points for Tottenham and that put them back into third place after Arsenal drew and Chelsea lost to Wolves.
But Trippier’s display wasn’t the only worrying aspect of tonight’s game. The crowd of just 33,000 meant that Wembley was less than half-full and the game was played in front of silence at times.
Tottenham need to get their new stadium open as quickly as possible. The atmosphere might not have hurt them tonight but it could well do in the future.
In the meantime, here are the best reactions to Trippier’s display v Southampton:
I've had enough of watching Trippier already.

I’m sorry but I just don’t get Trippier as a RB. Not big enough, not strong enough, too easily outmuscled. I get that you don’t like Aurier but if we play a back 4 Trippier isn’t good enough.

Trippier can’t defend and has little pace

Been a bit of a meh half. Doubt the 3/4 empty ground helps. Eriksen needs to be more central. Son is TOO central, Trippier doesnt have a basic IQ to stay onside.

Take Trippier off the pitch .. the mug pulls out of every tackle .. ever since he’s been called a class crosser, he’s scared to throw a tackle in.#COYS
