OPINION
Mauricio Pochettino is not averse to the odd selectorial curve ball and eyebrows have been raised at a report today that 16-year-old Troy Parrott has travelled with the Tottenham squad for tonight’s (Saturday) Premier League clash against Leicester City. The Irish Independent claim Republic of Ireland youth international Parrott is not expected to make the substitute’s bench but is in the travelling party to illustrate “the esteem in which he is held” by the manager and his coaching staff. Parrott has made a big impression since joining the Tottenham youth team set-up this year, scoring 11 goals in 17 matches for the club’s age-group teams, including nine in just six appearances for the Under-18s. Given he has made only a few Under-23s fixtures, it is a huge leap to first-team football but, with Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen expected to be sold next year, there are certainly slots opening up to understudy main man Harry Kane. Spurs and Irish fans are shocked and excited by the unexpected team news reveal.
