Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has four bids on the table in excess of £300million as he looks to seal a takeover deal for the club, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their website that there have been talks ongoing between the British businessman and former Premier League chief Peter Kenyon over ending the Sports Direct supremo’s time at St James’ Park as the potential new investor receives backing from investment from the United States.

However, it is said there are three other parties who have also tabled offers to Ashley, the majority coming from foreign investors, and that negotiations are ongoing n a major revelation on the status of a takeover.

Opinion

Can Newcastle fans start to believe that a takeover could actually happen? They have had very little to celebrate with Ashley in charge of things and so really could do with some good news. This is a sign that things could be turning in their favour and that the businessman could finally be out of the St James’ Park exit door. Can it come soon enough for Rafael Benitez to be handed decent funds for January and the transfer window? The club will be praying that that is the case, for without proper investment, which is unlikely to come from Ashley as he looks to try and seal his own exit from Tyneside, they will be battling at the wrong end of the Premier League table. Three weeks is all the potential investors have if they want to get a deal done for the winter market and so there will be plenty of members of the Toon Army waiting with bated breath to find out if their prayers have been answered.
