Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that Paul Dummett, Karl Darlow and Isaac Hayden are all unavailable against Everton on Wednesday.

The Spaniard confirmed the news at his pre match press conference on Tuesday, via the Chronicle [13:42], while also saying that decisions would have to be made on a few other players who have knocks.

Dummett has been unavailable since picking up an injury on international duty with Wales, while the latter pair’s setbacks have come more recently.

The Welshman is the only member of the trio who has been a regular contributor for the Magpies this season, and his absence has seen Ciaran Clark and Javier Manquillo filling in for him.

OPINION

Dummett’s absence is the only one that really hurts Newcastle here. The 27-year-old has been an important player for Benitez this campaign and is the manager’s only trusted left back, which has been demonstrated by two players having to play out of position in his place in recent weeks. He is a solid Premier League performer and the Magpies don’t have another one of those at left back at the minute. Darlow’s absence against West Ham United last time out was interesting in that it saw youngster Freddie Woodman preferred to veteran Rob Eliot on the substitutes bench. Hayden doesn’t really seem to have a long term future at the club and so his absence isn’t one that will really hurt Newcastle on Wednesday. Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame and Ki Sung-yueng are all ahead of him in the pecking order and this setback won’t help the Englishman reverse that fact.
