Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank is not interested in buying Newcastle United, according to Newcastle Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder.

The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the American billionaire, worth $4.6billion (Forbes), will not be buying the Premier League club off Mike Ashley after he revealed on Monday that he is edging closer towards a sale.

Blank’s name has been linked as a potential buyer for the Magpies, however it appears as though the MLS club chief is not yet ready to dip his toes into the English top-flight.

OPINION

If Ashley is telling the truth about being close to selling Newcastle, then it is a shame that Blank will not be the buyer because he is someone of immense wealth an actual interest in football – or soccer. Atlanta United have become one of the best teams in the USA, basically overnight, in football terms. They were formed just over four years ago and already boast one of the best stadiums in the world, one of the biggest fanbases in the States and have reached this year’s MLS Cup final where they will play Portland Timbers on Sunday. Blank’s name has probably been connected with Newcastle due to links between the Tyneside club and Atlanta’s star player Miguel Almiron. Reports have suggest that the Magpies are very keen on the Paraguay international, so there may have been some kind of communication between the two clubs over him in recent months and not anything to do with Brands and a potential investment opportunity in the Premier League.
