Ask Newcastle United fans to name one player who has been underwhelming this season and they will no doubt answer with Ayoze Perez.

His performances this season take no introducing – to put it plainly, he has been woeful for a while now and he is only going to hamper the team’s chances this season if he continues to be picked.

Rafa Benitez needs to instate Yoshinori Muto as a regular starter ahead of the Spaniard, who is just an accident waiting to happen with his ability to scupper chances galore.

Salomon Rondon has been starved of top-quality service while the mainstay has been on the pitch and this must be put to an end as soon as possible.

Muto has not really had the chance this season to show what he can do due to injury being an obstacle, but now he has returned, the stage is now his to show everybody what he can do – and why he should have a spot in the starting XI ahead of Perez.

The Magpies take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday and their defenders would have a field day with the lack of attacking threat coming from the 25-year-old.

Essentially, Wolves have not much to worry about if they see Perez’ name pop up on the teamsheet – and nor would any other team that face them either, as he is just an accident waiting to happen.

Muto provides the team with a set of fresh legs after a number of injuries, and with Benitez desperate for a victory after picking up just one point from the last two games, the Japan international is just the answer to his woes.

Fans are relying on Benitez to make the right call, and starting the 5ft 10in [Transfermarkt] ace is just the way to go about it.

Bye, bye Perez.
