A North East-based journalist has admitted that he would not be surprised if Newcastle United terminate Kenedy’s loan deal from Chelsea in January.

Mark Douglas, a publishing editor at the Chronicle, claimed on his personal Twitter account that he would not be shocked if the Magpies ripped up the flyer’s season-long loan in the upcoming window.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has denied that the club would make such a decision, but Douglas does not necessarily believe the Spaniard after the Brazilian was dropped from their squad to face Watford on Saturday.

OPINION

It has been a torrid couple of months for Kenedy, who has gone from hero to zero at St. James’ Park. The Brazilian flyer emerged as a real fan favourite on Tyneside last season during his initial loan spell from Chelsea, with the club taking up a no-brainer decision in keeping him on for another term. Things started well again but have since gone seriously downhill for the young left-footer, who has looked so out of sorts in recent weeks. His omission from the match day squad to face Watford is the latest sign that all is not well with the 22-year-old, and will raise real questions over a potential January exit. Benitez has insisted that such a move is off the cards, but what point is there in keeping him around if he can’t even make the squad at the moment? With Premier League sides only allowed two domestic loans, he is taking up a valuable spot which could be occupied by a player who is more up to the task.
