With just Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths as his forward options – both having missed significant portions of the current campaign – Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers knows that a new striker is a must in the new year.

Having seen his side lack the cutting edge needed to sink fierce rivals Rangers in their last game of 2018 it is quite clear Rodgers and his men are in a serious title race this season and only additional firepower will help them blitz their challengers away.

The Northern Irish boss would likely want someone with notable experience either for club and country and there would certainly be worse options than someone who is featuring on a regular basis for a Premier League side.

Step forward Fulham’s Aboubakar Kamara, who stole the limelight for all the wrong reasons this weekend as he reneged on instructions from manager Claudio Ranieri and took a penalty ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic – a spot kick he saw saved.

A fuming Ranieri said after the game that he wanted to kill the 23-year-old powerhouse but the Times report that rather than murder, the Italian boss could instead swing the axe on his career in a shock sale at Craven Cottage.

Having appeared in 12 Premier League appearances this season, including the last eight outings, his exit in January would be a real surprise but one that Celtic must pounce upon.

Versatile enough to play on the wing or up front, he has the experience and potential to make a real difference at Parkhead and give Brendan Rodgers the sort of options he needs in his squad this season.

He might not be cheap and he might need some convincing of a move but with European football and a title challenge on the cards, he is the sort of ambitious swoop the Hoops ought to be making to take themselves to the next level.
