OPINION

There were very few positives to take away from Everton’s 2-2 draw with Watford on Monday night, with Marco Silva’s men putting in a rather dismal performance across the pitch.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was not up to scratch, Seamus Coleman had a mare, the midfield was basically anonymous and even though Richarlison scored in his centre-forward role, the attack was seriously lacking once again.

Cenk Tosun came on late in the second half in an attempt to rescue things, but his inability to hold the ball up was glaringly obvious and actually rather worrying from the manager’s point of few.

This is why he must turn to the young guns and place his faith in young striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin from this moment on.

Yes, admittedly he did not have the best of cameos on Monday but this is largely down to the fact that he is not being started regularly, but this is something that needs to change.

The Toffees are lacking a natural centre-forward – one who actually has quality – but the young ace may be the answer to Silva’s problems.

Tosun has been given one too many chances and at the moment, he is seriously hampering Everton’s ability to close out matches.

The 21-year-old had a few decent run outs while Richarlison was suspended earlier in the season and the signs look rather promising for his first team career.

He brings the much-needed energy to a side who look rather tired going forward, and to be honest, the decision to bring him into the starting XI should be a no-brainer when you look at the talent currently on offer.

What has Silva got to lose?

Everyone knows that Richarlison up front is not as effective as him playing on the wing, but he has not really had any choice recently.

However, bringing in the £12,000-a-week Calvert-Lewin [Spotrac] will give the team a serious lift and propel them to the next level they need to be at.

Over to you, Silva.
