Everton are keen to seal a permanent transfer for midfielder Andre Gomes at the end of the season, director of football Marcel Brands has said.

Brands has admitted that the Toffees are working on a deal that will ensure Gomes, 25, remains as an Everton player beyond the current campaign when his loan spell expires.

He says that the club’s biggest concern is to hang onto him following a series of impressive performances, which started upon his debut against Crystal Palace a few months ago.

“He’s adapted so well. He’s a very smart guy, a very social guy. I always liked him as a player so I’m so happy he’s at Everton and our big concern is now to keep him,” he told BBC Radio Merseyside, as quoted by the Mirror.

OPINION

Everton fans will be over the moon regarding the latest update on Andre Gomes, as he has been an absolute revelation for the club since his debut. Since that game against Palace, he has remained as a mainstay in the team with his assured and confident displays. His quality has propelled Everton to the next level, so it is no surprise that Brands is working on a deal to keep him beyond the end of the season. They would be lost without him in the midfield, and the link-up play he has with Gylfi Sigurdsson is a sight to behold. Other clubs will no doubt be after him in the summer, but if everything goes according to plan, supporters may just see Gomes in a blue shirt next season. He is raved about week after week by the fans, so they would love more than anything for him to stay at Goodison Park.
