Sheffield United are close to signing Everton rising star Kieran Dowell on loan next month, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Championship promotion hopefuls are leading the race for the signature of the attacking midfielder, 21, ahead of the likes of Glasgow giants Rangers.

Football Insider report Everton are prepared to green light the temporary exit of Dowell, who is not expected to break into Marco Silva’s Premier League plans in the second half of the campaign.

Good move for Sheffield United?

Definitely. Dowell showed while on loan at Nottingham Forest last season that he is an outstanding talent who can add a real cutting edge to Championship teams. The England Under-21 international scored 10 goals in 43 appearances for the City Ground outfit from a central attacking midfield road and provided half as many in assists. United have lost some ground in the automatic promotion race in recent weeks to the likes of Leeds United and Norwich City, and it would be a major boost to their hopes if they can push the Dowell deal over the line. He can provide some much-needed creative spark, and should fit in well to the playing style implemented by Chris Wilder.

Likely to happen?

Yes. Football Insider are a very reliable source of transfer news, and it appears this deal is close to being agreed. Sheffield United appears a good loan move for Dowell, and, although it has come out of the blue today, all roads point towards this getting over the finish line.
