Celtic have enquired about the availability of Everton midfielder Tom Davies ahead of the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that Davies’ lack of playing time in recent weeks – the youngster has not appeared at all since October 6th – has seen the Hoops make an approach, with head of recruitment Lee Congerton particularly keen.

The Mail report however that Everton boss Marco Silva has no intention of letting the England youth international leave Goodison Park in January.

When asked about a potential exit for Davies, Silva said: “No way. Impossible. No way. Tom is part of our squad. He is an important player for me and an important player for us as a club. He is the present and the future of our club.”

Good move for Celtic?

Absolutely.

Davies is a highly talented young midfielder who has shown he has the quality to compete in the Premier League for Everton since his debut a couple of seasons ago.

The 20-year-old would be a brilliant addition to the Hoops midfield, with the futures of Scott Brown and Callum McGregor looking uncertain.

Likely to happen?

No.

Silva has emphatically shut the door on an exit for Davies in the New Year, and that is totally understandable.

The youngster may not have played much in recent weeks but he is clearly a player that the club would like to keep in the long-term having come through the academy on Merseyside.

Should this situation continue until the summer then maybe the Hoops have a slight chance of a deal, but it would cost them quite a bit for sure.
