Emile Smith Rowe has revealed the meticulous management style that is helping Arsenal keep pace with the Premier League’s top clubs under Unai Emery.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has made a rapid rise to the first team squad under his new manager, and has suggested that the Spaniard has brought with him a newfound intensity – and that he resorts to speaking in Spanish when he gets angry.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “He’s very passionate and very detailed as well.

“He wants it how he wants it. He’s not going to pull back, he’s just going to keep trying and keep getting what he wants.

“I think that’s good for the whole team. He does speak a lot in Spanish when he gets a bit angry, but it’s good that he’s so passionate.

“He wants to win and he wants to improve.”

OPINION

Arsenal look like a new team under Unai Emery. Whereas towards the back end of the Wenger era the Gunners had begun to look feeble and a little stagnated, under the Spaniard they have rediscovered their bite. Twenty-one matches unbeaten is quite simply remarkable, especially considering where the club was at when Wenger left last season. The most notable difference is a real injection of passion and fight under Emery. For the first time in a long time, Arsenal look capable of being nasty, and they need to be if they’re serious about challenging for titles. Sometimes it has gone too far this season – getting booked three times for diving against Huddersfield at the weekend is inexcusable – but for the most part they have struck a balance between grit and class nicely. Some of the football being played at the Emirates this term is as good as anything Wenger encouraged over the past decade, and has the potential to be just as successful as the Frenchman’s sides of the early 00’s. It’s a big ask, but under Emery, Arsenal could win a title in the next three years.
