Matteo Guendouzi has hailed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the “perfect” striker and “a pleasure to play with” at Arsenal.

Aubameyang reclaimed the Premier League top scorer spot after taking his tally to 13 for the season in the competition following his strike in the 1-1 Boxing Day draw against Brighton.

“He’s helping us a lot because he scores so much,” Guendouzi told Sky Sports of Aubameyang. “For me he is the best striker in the Premier League this season and if he keeps scoring as much in the second half of the season, I know we will finish really high in the table.

“As a midfielder it’s a pleasure to play with someone like him, it’s easy because he has so many qualities. He can run behind, he’s in the box in front of goal but he can also link up play and play with his back to his goal. For a midfielder this is perfect because he offers so many solutions.”

OPINION

Aubameyang is the real deal. There were high hopes hoisted upon him when he signed for a club-record fee in January and arrived at the same time as the Gunners bid farewell to Alexis Sanchez, their best player of the previous half-decade. During a year of much change at Arsenal, none can complain about the impact made by Aubameyang, or whether he has lived up to the hype. His 38 matches for the club have yielded 25 goals, a productivity rate that is Thierry Henry-esque and has lifted the Gabon international into the top bracket of Premier League front men. He doesn’t have the all-round game of Harry Kane, or the link-up excellence of Mohamed Salah, but Aubameyang’s blistering pace and excellence in front of goal make him a potent leader of the attack and a real handful for opponents, who know they can’t afford to give him any space in and around the box. For an Arsenal team in transition, it must be satisfying to have such a potent spearhead who can be relied upon to deliver.
