Celtic target Timothy Castagne is likely to learn within the next 48 hours whether he is allowed to leave Atalanta in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the 23-year-old’s representatives will hold talks with the Serie A club’s hierarchy as they are reluctant to cash in on the wantaway right-back.

It is understood that an offer from Celtic is on the cards as they eye up a £6million swoop for the Belgium international, who is said to have impressed the Atalanta bosses with his performance in the 2-2 draw against Juventus on Boxing Day.

Good move for Celtic?

Brendan Rodgers has needed a new right-back for quite some time and Castagne is someone who could come to Parkhead and pretty much walk straight into the starting line-up.

Mikael Lustig is a decent player and is basically part of the furniture in Glasgow’s East End, however his contract expires at the end of the season and his performances over the last year or so have raised doubts about his longevity.

Castagne is only 23-years-old and even though he will cost a lot of money at £6million, he should be worth every penny and the Bhoys could have themselves a new right-back for years to come.

Likely to happen?

If Atalanta don’t want to sell Castagne, that is a problem for Celtic.

What is also an issue is that the Daily Mail claims that he would rather move to England or Germany if he was to quit Italy this month.

A move to Celtic Park could be something that interests him, but if he has offers from those places, it may be hard for Rodgers to change his mind.
